Bjork Ball
Bjork Ball was an immersive art and music experience that included audio and visual artists of various backrounds at Art Sanctuary. These include "Emotional Landscapes" (art installations) by interstice (an art collective including Trevor Decuir, Carolyn Spears, Matthew Little, Robert Major, Erika Margaret, Edwin Ramirez and Laura Bernethia ). Orchestra Enigmagtic feat: In lightning and Carly Johnson (arrangements of Björk songs for OE by: Derek Carter, Charles Rivera, Joe Dunn, Ben Short, Kent Klarer, and Joey Thieman). Floral artist Mike Odeja and installation by Tara Remington. The event featured DJ's AndrOspore (Edwin Ramirez) and Ethan Adrian, with drag performances and MC by local drag artist, Stevie Dicks.
I am so proud to have collaborated and been part of this one night exhibition and musical experience. The preparation, art creation and art direction for this event took months of work from everyone involved and it was an unforgettable experience.
For Bjork Ball, I created an "emotional landscape" on Art Sanctuary's stage that depicted volcanic lava streams, a recycled paper and cardboard coral and seascape, and a large crystal formation. I also created video projections that played throughout the night. My work was inspired by Bjork's songs "Crystalline", "Hidden place", and "Mutual Core". Bjork's music has been a driving force in my creativity since I was a teen, so being able to embellish the central stage was a dream and not without its logistical challenges.
